ECIT Annual Conference

9TH EDITION / 3 JULY 2024

The main aim of this event to be held just after the European Elections of 6-9 June will be to examine the role of the new EU legislature in defending European rights and promoting this first transnational citizenship status of the modern era. ECIT has pioneered the idea of a Statute on EU Citizenship, which has been supported repeatedly by the European Parliament and the Conference on the Future of Europe. The Annual Conference will discuss ways to raise this issue and other proposals with the new Parliament, particularly in the parliamentary hearings of future Commissioners.

There will also be examination of a new version of the European citizens’ initiative (ECI) “I’m going European” – which calls for European citizenship education and Erasmus for all in order to raise awareness of the Statute and make European Citizenship a citizenship for everyone.

This 9th annual event, like its predecessors, will be structured round three panel discussions representing the components of citizenship at any level: Rights, Participation and Belonging.
