Programme Of Activities For The Citizenship Statute

ECIT’s success in being the first to launch the idea of a Statute on European Citizenship, and then getting it supported by the European Parliament and the Conference on the Future of Europe is encouraging. It shows that with persistence, a good idea can get on the EU agenda as a result of voluntary effort and without the support of powerful lobbies. However, to persuade the European Commission to propose a statute and then see it through to adoption is another matter. Hence this Programme of Activities for the Citizenship Statute which has been sent to foundations with a budget of about 90,000 euros to campaign for a statute in the run-up to the 2024 European elections and beyond.
