The ECIT Foundation is looking for a new generation of architects to support our upcoming launch of the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “All On Board – For Your Right to EU Citizenship.”
This is not a typical internship. We aren’t just “running a project”. We are building a youth-led European movement to make EU citizenship a lived reality, not just a legal concept. If successful, this initiative will mobilize over one million citizens and force the European Commission to act.
We are looking for people who don’t just want to observe European politics, but want to organize it.
🌍 About ECIT
ECIT (European Citizens’ rights, Involvement and Trust) is a Brussels-based think tank and foundation at the heart of the European Quarter. We believe democracy shouldn’t be distant or institutional, but something that is actively shaped by its citizens. From advocating for a Citizenship Statute to the “Voters Without Borders” campaign, we have spent a decade pushing the boundaries of what it means to be European. With All On Board, we are scaling that mission into a pan-European movement.
🚀 The Initiative: “All On Board”
Access to mobility, civic education, and democratic rights is still a privilege of the few. All On Board aims to change that by establishing a European framework for the right to:
- learn about European citizenship and rights;
- experience Europe through mobility for all (not just university students);
- recognize those skills and qualifications across EU Member States.
🧭 The Roles
Most people experience Europe passively. This internship is your chance to lead. You won’t just support a project, but help build a movement from the ground up, gaining the skills, network, and experience to lead the next generation of European advocacy.
We are recruiting four leads who will each support a key pillar of the campaign:
- Communications & Movement Building Lead
- The Mission: Turn a policy idea into a brand people want to join.
- The Work: Manage the “All On Board” digital ecosystem; lead storytelling for our Youth Task Forcesacross Europe; develop campaign content across platforms, and contribute to press outreach and narrative framing
- The Lead: Ideal if you are a creative strategist who knows how to make democracy go viral.
- Grassroots & Community Coordinator
- The Mission: Ensure the campaign is owned by young people, not “Brussels boardrooms.”
- The Work: Act as the primary pulse-check for our Youth Task Forces (YTFs) across 27 countries; facilitate peer-to-peer exchange; and track engagement to support local mobilization efforts.
- The Lead: Ideal if you are a “people person” who thrives on building networks and empowering others.
- Event & Training Lead
- The Mission: Create the “moments” that define the movement.
- The Work: Produce our high-energy Monthly Digital Town Halls; coordinate “Skill-Up” trainings for activists; and lead the logistics for the September 15th Signature Launch and action days.
- The Lead: Ideal if you are an organized “doer” who loves the energy of live events and community building.
- Advocacy & Stakeholder Lead
- The Mission: Turn grassroots momentum into political impact.
- The Work: Manage and engage a coalition of NGOs, universities, and student unions; support the ECI Stakeholder Board; and help draft the briefings that will land on the desks of MEPs and EU officials.
- The Lead: Ideal if you are a policy nerd who understands how to navigate the Brussels “power map.”
👤 Who We’re Looking For
We don’t expect you to tick every box, but we are looking for people who:
- Care deeply about democracy, participation, and the future of Europe.
- Are proactive and comfortable taking initiative.
- Can work both independently and in a small, fast-moving team
- Are currently enrolled in a relevant field (Political Science, Communications, Law, etc.).
- Have strong communication skills in English (other EU languages are a plus)
- Experience with tools like Canva, social media platforms, or event coordination is an advantage(but mindset matters more).
📅 Practical Details
- Duration: Minimum 3-month (up to 6 months) placement June 2026 – February 2027.
- Location: Brussels (European Quarter).
- Status: This is a Professional Partnership. While we require you to have Erasmus+ or equivalent funding, we treat you as a core member of the team. You will receive formal certification as a “European Democracy Lead” and gain high-level network access that is rare in larger institutions.
