European Citizens' Initiatives

General resources on European Citizens' Initiatives

In terms of Article 11.4 (TEU) and Regulation (EU)  No 788/2019 over 1 million citizens can demand a European law. The Commission has a dedicated website describing how European Citizens’ Initiatives (ECIs) work and the state of play with successful, refused or failed ECIs.

Want to sign one or more ECIs ?  Visit the Commission website and be part of the change!

A number of NGOs offer assistance with ECIs:

  • ECAS
  • ECI Campaign
  • Democracy International who are also campaigning for reform

Each year the European Economic and Social Committee brings the main stakeholders together in April. Find more about the European Citizens' Initiative Day 2019.
